For anyone still having questions, here is my dual exhaust story.
I have a V6 convertible, I’m 45 and my wife has to ride in my car once in awhile…
While (I) wanted it little loader I still needed to be able to hear my wife talk quietly with the top down or I’m in the dog house!
I bought a 2.25" off-road X pipe and a few cheep oxygen sensor simulators off ebay, two flow-master 50s, and had a local muffler shop put it all together. It was much loader then I thought it would be (mainly from removing the cats) even worse was that I lost a lot of low end torque! But the absolute worst thing was the nasty rice sound coming from my Mustang during heavy acceleration. I then added two glass packs (where the cats used to be) and that made a much deeper tone (no more rice sound) and mellowed out the volume to an acceptable level. It also restored the back pressure I lost and made a noticeable difference off the line.
So, 2.25" can be too big on a V6 if you make the exhaust to free flowing.
Also, it helps to add a CAI to open up the air flow comming into the engine too.

don't know bout 50 series...but my 40's are only "ricey" at like 3000...below they are better than V8 (IMO) and above they scream like a race car...so just that small range they have a high pitch. Really INEVITABLE with a V6. Enjoy the unique sound your pretty large V6 makes (compared to them import sixes).
