Default '99 Ran low on oil....now clunk clunk clunk - Please help

Ok. I'm new to this forum. I thought it would be the best place to ask. My son has a '99 3.8 Mustang. Ran it low on oil. He pulled it up into my driveway making a horrible clanking. His stereo was so loud, he couldn't hear it. No lights on the dash! Temp ok. I checked the oil and it wasn't even on the dipstick. Changed it quickly (1 qt in there). Still the bottom end was clunking terrible. Added motor honey. Still clunking. Bottom end is gone.

The question(s): rebuild (probably not)? Engine swap? Buy another Mustang and use this one for parts?

Engines are about $500 to $800. I'll pay someone to install (I'm too old for that pain). Guessing $500+ for labor.

Another Mustang in better condition ('99-'00) will go for $2K to $3K.

I'm sure some other readers have been in this situation. I appreciate your thoughts.

Mostly depends on the condition of the car. If it's in excellent shape, then maybe put a used motor in it. The worst part about this is, you buy a motor and pay someone to install it, and it blows up a week later. That's the risk of a used motor. If you're not attached to the car, maybe park it and buy another.
