Default Bad Gas or Floater

Changed fuel pump last year, put 15 dollars in tank and it went from a quarter (when it was actually empty) to a half a tank. That was over a year ago, I went to start car and it started fine for two weeks but today its been cutting off after 2 minutes, car says half a tank but doesnt stay started. I put 3 gallons in a it started right up perfectly and stayed started but still sounds like its fighting a bit. I wanna know if its bad gas? Floater stuck? And will filling up my tank reset the float?

When you put the fuel pump in you have to be very carefull to make sure the float arm does not get hung up on the wiring and hose. I can almost gaurentee the float arm is hung up.

Sources: Made the same mistake my self the first time I did a fuel pump on one of these cars.

Thanks for confirming my thoughts on it being the arm, Im going to drop the tank well, kind of drop it. The way I did it last time was by jacking car then placing a jack underneath gas tank then lowering it without disconnecting anything so i could reach and unscrew the top of the pump to open it up. Then from there Im going to make sure floater isnt stuck thanks for that ill update today when I do it

Also if you've allowed it to run dry Id replace the fuel filter. Picks up all the sediment in the bottom of the tank and can cause running problems.

Hey Gents, so floater arm is fixed, now I have an issue with power. She doesnt hit off as soon as I touch the gas from being fully stopped, its a hesitation in her, new air filter so thats checked off. One thing I noticed is my cat wasnt red from being hot but it was smoking so Im chalking that up to the carb cleaner and the fact that she hasnt been driven since 2015 but yeah Im wondering whats keeping her from accelerating to her full potential
