i think its actually about every 1 pound you loses in rotating weight, is equal to 2 lbs of regular weight. Neer heard claims as high as 5-7x. At most id say its like 3 lbs.

so do we have aluminum or not. I checked under the car but can't tell the difference. Maybe I can use some magnet or other means.

I was gonna say that if they were aluminum ,they wouldn't be rusty. That tips me off![sm=burnout.gif]

I did examine your drive shaft and don't mean to sound dum but on my 06 it doesn't have rusty coating and has a smoother look and feel to it. My car was produced at the end of last year so it would have time to rust if it was steel. My question is, did they switch to Aluminum in 06? Afixer, you have an 05 model, correct?

You are correct. I've been researching this in the past few days more extensivly and various sites have different claims. Most did state that for every 1lb of unsprung weight like the flyweel and such, is equal to 5-7lb of sprung weight. When I was moding Civic's, switching to a lighter flywheel (8lb instead of 16.5lb) made a big difference in acceleration. I guess that weight reduction ratio would be different if it applies to driveshaft or the wheels. Maybe reducing wheel weight by 1lb equals to 2-3lb but the ratio is higher when it comes to driveshaft and even higher at flywheel. The only way to find out is to get some real dyno numbers posted. Before changing to ligher driveshaft and after. I'll search net for better post on driveshaft but the info on lighter flywheel is already documented.

Before spending my money, I want to make sure that I'll get a benefit from a mod instead of following advertisement :-)

it will not work that way when lightening the drive shaft. It doesn't just take weight off of your car when you lighten ur driveshaft, it lowers the rotating mass of it , so it can spin easier with less power. 35 pounds off of a drive shaft would without a doubt show some decent power gains and shave off some time on the quarter.

ok, by reading what's being said her is that, in theory, those of us with early 05s have a steel drive-shaft, and those of us with later 05s and 06s have an aluminum drive-shaft? correct?

here is a good link to explain difference in sprung/unsprung/hybrid weight.

that sucks [:@]

How is it holding up? I notice that you push your car to the limit since you are boosted so you probably put more tension than the rest of us.
I read on the Visteon web site that new Slip-in-Tube driveshaft is 4 times stronger than regular so it should withstang higher loads. Not sure why your broke so easily. Oh wait, you did say that the u joint came loose and driveshaft banged against undercaridge.
Can we get regular aluminum driveshaft and still preserve integrity of Slip-in-Tube?
