Will a Cold Air Intake increase my gas mileage?
Hopefully this is not too stupid of a question, but those of you who have Cold Air Intakes...Do they increase your gas mileage any? I have a K&N Cold Air Intake ordered. Just curious as to if it will increase my gas mileage any.

RE: Will a Cold Air Intake increase my gas mileage?
It's wierd. On the 91 octane tune, the most aggressive of the 3 (87, 89, 91) I get great milage, 20MPG and up to 320 miles to the tank. On the 87, I was astounded... maybe my sensor is off, but it said I was getting 370 miles to the tank?! And on the 89, I get about 18MPG.
I think I'll actually have to use the 91 octane to SAVE money. Haha!

My answer would be "no"
Most of us are going to use the extra power if we have it, so even if the CAI did increase mileage when driving "normally", you're probably going to be putting your foot in it more.

I have the C&L intake, along with an SCT X-Cal2. I run 93 octane all the time now, and my gas mileage really varies with where and how I drive.
When I'm driving around town, mpg is about the same (20ish) as long as I take it easy, but I can burn gas really fast when I feel like getting on it.
On the highway, I get about 30-31 as long as I take it easy (stay below 70 and maintain steady speed). This is an increase of about 3 mpg compared to what I got stock. However, with the increase in gas price for the higher octane, that's not really a gain in the total cost. I have yet to return to 87 since I got the tuner, so I will be interested to see what kind of mpg I get.
I do have to say, however, that paying a little more for gas is well worth having instant power at my disposal whenever I want it!
