Break In Period?
Hi, I was just wondering what you guys think about the new car break in period, Ive never had a new car before so I gots to know, the dealer told me not to really push the car at all until at least 1000 miles, so I didnt, but now I have a new job and I have to jump on the highway every day twice a day but I get on the Merritt Parkway in CT (the Hutch for you New Yorkers) and it has VERY short onramps and harsh merges so I usually push it in third gear up to like 4500 RPMs @ full throttle to get it up to 60 fast then I get it into 4th until like 70-80 then go to 5th and cruise there for 15 miles, right now I have like 1700 miles, my question is am I pushing it too hard for a car with this few miles on it? Thanks.

DRIVE IT LIKE YOU STOLE IT. DON'T BABY IT. DON'T LET IT WARM UP ON COLD MORNINGS. GET IN IT AND GO.
I TESTED THIS THEORY ON MY BRAND NEW 1993 RANGER. DROVE IT 170,000 MILES AND THE ONLY THING I HAD TO REPLACE WAS THE CLUTCH AT 130,000.
CHANGE FLUIDS ON SCHEDULE AND YOU'LL BE FINE. EXCEPT OIL, FORD RECCOMENDS EVERY 5K. I DO EVERY 3K.
