I got mine off ebay for $150, where it should have cost $350. New too.

Tronics X65 that is! On my way to the office this AM I'm doing about 80 on the 241 toll road between So. Orange County and East OC when I get a Ka alert on my radar detector! I quickly slow down and see aCHP on the other side of the Toll road painting me with his radar. Lucky for me the BelTronics unit caught it in time! Saved By The Bel!
I thought the acronym was C.Hi.P.S.

did you get a good look at the officer? Was it Ponch or John?

I grew up in Venice, California. I used to watch them film CHiPs in my neighborhood. I think Ponch had sugar in his loafers.

Those guys were bike cops, this was a cruiser. And it's CHP, people just call them "Chips", either way I don't want to see them in my rearview mirror!

I don't think there is any way for them to be detected but in order for them to work they have to be in a line of sight with the road so they are visible in your windshield. There are also in-dash units that can be installed where the mechanism that detects the radar or laser is not obvious from the outside; there is no tell tail windshield mount. But those units are very expensive, like $1000. range.
But hell, thoes Mounties can't catch 210 ponies on one horse!
