one of the guys i know one the mazdaspeed forums will sell me the turbo from his mazdaspeed protege for 200 bucks and i was wondering how much it would cost to get a new intake mani fabricated to fit the turbo and all the exhaust work to fit etc. If you guys can even give me a rough estimate it'd be greatly appreciated.
Can this be done? Yes. Is it worth it? Probably not. The Protege is only a 2.0L 4 banger which means the Turbo is undersized for your car. The rough estimate on costs is almost impossible as it totally depends on how much of the work you do yourself vs having a shop fab for you. Besides the power gain from the turbo probably wouldn't be worth it. Maybe 30hp and 30tq at best. Something else to consider is that since the part is fabbed vs a kit, if you have problems, you could void your engine warranty.

Buy a kit, your pocket book will appreciate it in the long run.

Mazda is owned by Ford. The Ranger and Mazda B-Series pick-up are the same thing. Also, a lot of the performance parts for the Focus are interchangeable with the Mazda3. I wouldn't be surprised if MazdaSpeed does something with the Fusion engines or gets them for other Mazdas.

There is a lot of working involved, and a lot of things you should take into consideration. It is probably a T25 turbo, to small. You should get nothing less than a T3. You will need custom exhaust manifolds, exhaust pipes, blowoff valve, tune, injectors, intercooler, might have to upgrade the fuel pump etc… More trouble than it is worth, and will probably cost 3 - 4 thousand in the long run.

if you have the scratch, why the hell not....sounds like it would be a fun project and if you can't make it work, you are only out $200 plus whatever you put into it weither it works out for you, or you decide to scrap the project because it won't work.

I know a good amount about turbos, i just don't trust myself to custom fabricate an intake manifold and all the other necessities, so i am trying to get a rough estimate on how much that would run me. This seems like the best option for me if i can get stuff made, because i am not looking for huge amounts of power, and 5 grand is just to much money for an extra 100hp in my opinion.
It sounds like you are asking for an estimate on having a shop fab all the tubing for you and hook it all up. You'll be into it at least 5k if you go that route. It will take many, MANY hours of fabrication not to mention design development. It's one thing if you do it yourself as the fab time doesn't cost you anything out of pocket, but having a shop do it will add up quickly. You'd be much better off just buying the Powerhouse setup, they've already done all the research, development and fab work!

Another quick note on this, most people don't realize that a turbo head unit really is pretty cheap by itself. It's deceiving to look at the turbo unit cost, because it can lead you to believe this is a cheap add-on. But the reason a full kit like the Powerhouse setup costs so much is because they spent a gazillion hours in the shop figuring out how to route/ size everything and still have it work right. Plus getting the tune properly dialed in, and the boost level, and making sure the check engine light doesn't come on, etc. When you buy a kit you're paying for all that development time, the raw materials in the kit didn't really cost that much.
