just want to replace the factory intake box
Hi guys, Great forum!!! Just got my first mustang, v6 pony pckg 5 spd and I want to replace the bulky and ugly air intake for one that will work with the car without needing a tune, I just want it to look and sound good while keeping it simple and not avoiding the factory warranty, I'm not interested in the extra power, so far I've looked at the MMR V6 Annihilator Intake Kit and the S&B from v6mustangstuff.com, both of them say no flashing required. My question is, are these 2 really just plug and play and no tunes are needed or will I have any problems with check engine lights after installing them?
If anyone can help me with this I really appreciate it
Thank You

RE: just want to replace the factory intake box
If you are not looking for more performance and don't want to tune..... AEM brute force will be good...... good looks and sound .....
****BEWARE*****
If you put a CAI in.....anyting related to combustion will be questionable for warranty purposes.... even if the CAI is not the cause of the failure......
If you are afraid to void the warranty on a part....don't Mod.
Sorry

or do what I do, switch it all back to stock (takes me about 2 min) then take it in. this only works if you own the tuner though.

RE: just want to replace the factory intake box
i heard that the daler can hook it up to a computer and see exactly what you were doing when it died. for example: they could tell you were at redline when the engine died and wouldnt replace any broken part to fix it. i think that might just be made up to scare us though.

RE: just want to replace the factory intake box
I just picked up the MMR Annihilator from V6 Mustang Stuff you speak of because the caption said that it didn't require a re-flash/tune. It also mentions that it will not void any warranty. It seems like a reputable place and I spoke with a live person there to make sure. Now to install it... The last thing I installed in a car was a starter and that was over 10 years ago. It seems pretty straight forward though. Help us out here folks- were newbies. Baby steps.

RE: just want to replace the factory intake box
Guys,
It is as simple as it looks.......
the filter area is somewhat different from one mfg. to another, but it is a tube that hooks up to the intake (usually a Worm clamp, at the other en is a filter, in between there are two orifices, one is a slot and acomodates the MAF...(tipically reuse from stock and treat with care as it is a sensor) the other orifice is round and the hose from the stock set up fits in.
Really there is nothing complex about it... just follow your MFG directions and take caution with the MAF sensor.

RE: just want to replace the factory intake box
When I got my MMR CAI I gave it and the instructions page to my 12 year old son, he read everything through 2 times and then we went out to the car and I let him install it.
He had no problems understanding how it went in, I did help him take out the factory unit and the air sensor but he did the rest. I didn’t think that was too bad for his 1st mod.
