Go with the 3.73's and upgrade your diff to a t-lok (traction lock) or other posi-trak type diff. Be sure and get the bearings, seals, and shims kit, those parts are not allways in stock for the 7.5 inch diff that's in the V6 mustangs.
Could someone break this down (I'm a newbie with all this, but very interested). What's a "diff", what is "traction lock" and what is "posi-trak"? I've been reading this all over the forum, and would like to understand it a bit better.

I'm not an expert on this part by anymeans but,
Diff. is differential.
Traction lock.(tlock)-- Stock your car will only burn one tire when you peel out, a tlock will make both tires turn. Producing a better launch
Posi-track is a term for this type of rear end. One that will spin both tires, not just the one with the better traction

Like I said not an expert, but I know someone can elaborate more and correct me if I'm wrong

What else would you need besides the gears and the t-lok if you wanted them installed? :O

Blazen is correct. Just a few more points, "Posi" is a GM term, but is the same as a Ford TLOK, both of which are LSD (Limited Slip Differential). LSD's only apply to a rear-drive vehicle, in which the vechicle is fitted with a mechanism that ensures TQ is distributed to both wheels, even when one on a surface with little to no traction.

Want a great definition on this one, get the movie "My Cousin Vinny" (great film by the way) and pay attention to the scene when Marisa Tomei testifies about cars!!!

My Cousin Vinny is an old favorite of mine (gotta love that Joe Peche). Is our rear end setup pretty common? So the advantage of an LSD is a better launch, but I'm guessing the disadvantage would be poor traction in slippery conditions?

I get better traction in slippery conditions because both wheels turn instead of one. Of course RWD sucks in slippery conditions as a whole.

From what I understand you need the bushings? and a few other things to complete and seal the diff. You also need to change out the rear diff fluid and hope your bearings are still good.

t-lok = ford
posi = GM
sure trac = chrysler

all are limited slip, which splits the power evenly, the stock open diffs transfer power to both wheels until traction in one wheel is lost, then 100% of the power goes to that 1 wheel

3.73s are a nice upgrade for the auto, some people like 4.10s, however, for a T-5 5 speed, there is no reason you should not have 4.10s put in
