Default Gear whine with 3.73's or 4.10's

I am really interested in putting 3.73's on my car, but, things like having to put up with gear whine might drive me nuts. I have heard about people getting this, getting it and it's no big deal, and not getting whine at all. I'd like to see some quantitative results for this... and, do you basically have to be like a brain surgeon to put them in and not get whine? Or do you just sweat the details? Any idea if a special tool is needed to mesh the gears properly?

If gears whine then they were installed IMPROPERLY. Gears shouldnt whine, they didnt lash em. They just slapped it together and hoped it wouldnt whine.

I've heard a lot of answers to this question. Most of the people I know say that's there is whine at the begining, but after a few hundred miles the gears get worn in and it goes away. Others say if they are installed properly w/ the right lube(I forgot what it's called) it will not whine at all, others say they hate it b/c they hear whine and squeel tires all the time b/c they have poor tires.

When installing a new ring and pinion gear, because they are different from the factory ones, NEED to be lashed. Sometimes you can get lucky and slap it back together and it wont whine, but more often than not this is not the case. The whine you hear is the gears wearing, literally shaving metal off, theres a specified distance that pinion needs to be from the ring gear, if its not with in spec theyll whine.

Does a dealer need special equipment to do this, or just skill? I have a couple mechanics I know who are pretty skilled, but, I want to know if I have to ask them if they have a certain piece of equipment...
