Out of placement sorry, just wondering....? My brother has an 04 v6 and he's got a k&n and magnaflow on there, and hes getting 12 mpg around town, doesn't drive hard. Ford replaced mass air sensor. Do you think a tune is needed?? Anyone have problems with a non-tuned k&n for the 05s??
There is more wring with that car than the tune.
How many miles on it?
Is he the original owner? Maybe a previous owner did some other mods, like gears maybe.
I mean I hammer my automatic constantly and I'm gettin 22.
15000, bought new, and another wierd thing is he'll get 26-28 on the highway no problem sooooo.
Most CAI's did not require a tune for the SN95. The K&N FIPK for the 3.8L V6 was one of those that did not require a tune. The SN95's were notorious for poor throttle response (so a lot of owners bought third party like BBK, etc.) and the throttle plate staying open too long. If he's getting 26-28 on the highway it sounds like in traffic his throttle is staying open at a high rpm (or slow to close) when he slows down or stops. Try removing the air inlet tube at the throttle body and spraying the throttle plate with carb cleaner. That should take care of the problem. If not, he might need a new TB or the sensor that is screwed on the outside of the TB.
Something doesn't sound right at all there, I get 22 around town, you sure he is figuring it up right? Unless he just floors it everywhere, I don't see how his mileage is that bad. I usually get on mine everywhere I go, within reason, like just enough that the t/c kicks in. I would definitely have that looked at, especially since he is gettin such good numbers on the highway.
