Premium gas or 87 octane?

RE: Premium gas or 87 octane?
well..... one think most people don't realize is the computer in our cars (called Spanish Oak) actually will use the spark knock sensors and try to advance the timing with out detonating.. So the spark knock sensors not only subtract timing, they will also add it if the computer thinks the motor is "under-sparked".... I have seen it in action during datalog runs... Someone pointed out a magazine article that showed an increase in HP on a GT (same Spanish oak) buy just putting in premium... I have never dyno'ed gas to prove or disprove this but... I have seen the computer dynamically add spark...

Doug from Bamachips told me that the stock computer tuning will adjust itself based on the octane you put in. The computer can adjust from 87- all the way up to 100 octane fuel. It may not be much but it will produce a slightly better performance going to the higher grade fuel. It won't be instant after you put the fuel in though. He told me that the car's sensors will change the fuel mixture to get higher performance.
