expensive to change gears...
I called around to find out how much it will cost to change Dif gears (to 3.73) if I provide parts. What I was quoted is $400 labor. That is way too much since I have to pay $160 for Gear plus $80 for installation kit (shims, oil, etc). If I gain a bit of takeoff, I am paying over $650 to accomplish it. I think it would be best to save towards SC. What do you guys think?
I used to be a mechanic but never changed Dif gears. How coplex is it and can I just change main gear without pinion gear?
How many folks here attempted to change their own?

RE: expensive to change gears...
do NOT try it if you don't know how, it is complicated. you will gain more than take off, your car will accelerate faster from any position because the gearing is shorter. i can not say from experience, but from what i have heard they are worth it on an n/a car, and since you are gonna want a locker/limited slip differential anyway if you get a blower, you might as well put in gears at the same time so the install cost goes down. it costs so much because it is a very involved, complicated install.
