Alright, I know we've all read about the 2009 camaro with the LS2 400 hp engine. Will GT mustangs even compete with that? What are your opinions - does Ford need to give the GT some more power?

RE: Camaro
Yea, I've read mixed reviews, some say they'll keep the 4.6 and some say its gonna have more power. For the V6 thats pretty impressive too, If I recall correctly, were they talking about putting in a 3.5L instead of the 4.0?

RE: Camaro
The ls2 is either going out of production or being revised. It's replacement/redesign will be called the ls3 which is what the camaro will MOST LIKELY have. Expect low 400's in hp and torque. The camaro is going to be heavy though and will likely run just a bit faster than the 06 gto's so probably low 13's/high 12's (more common 12's than the gto's). Ford has been toying with the idea of a bigger engine and more power, but don't forget, the camaro is going to be priced about what the gto was, so mid 30k's....way more than the mustang gt. Close to the gt500.

Yea, personally Im not sure if the V8 camaros will make it that well. If they are priced where they are expected, around 35k for a coupe, then I dont think they can compete with a mustang. Correct me if Im wrong, a stripped GT is mid 20's???? Plus, for 35K, thats awfully close to a corvette. I would definitely go with a corvette over a camaro, and I think alot of other people would too. For the money, you cant beat a stang!

RE: Camaro
I have the feeling that there will be 3 models...The V6 which will make more HP than the Mustang but be around $25-$27 area. The base V8 will be 300hp to 375 HP and be way more that the stock GT and the SS model will be around 425 to 460 Hp and be in the upper $42 range and closere to the GT 500. I do think they will compete the first couple years do to the novelty but will fade off due to the higher cost and the close price range to a vette. My $.02
