Default speeding ticket issue

So Memorial day weekend I left my house for my cottage, which is 3 hours away at 5:00AM. Almost half way tehre i was behind an 18 wheeler and did a LEGAL pass. After I succesfully passed the truck i let go of the gas and basically coasted for a little bit and then around a corner. Then my radar detector went off and there was a state trooper sitting on the other side of the road with his radar. He did a "uey" and pulled me over. He clocked me at 79 in a 55 even though it was about 1 minute after passing an 18 wheeler. I tried explaining my situation to the cop but he still gave me the ticket. In order for me to appeal the ticket I would have to go to court an hour away and thats a pain in the a$$, plus it's my first ticket ever. Should I just pay the fine or appeal. Any input or other stories would help...thanks

I live in New York by the way

if you go to court you can usually have the fine reduced, no points added, and no driving school. just make sure your pleade is NO CONTEST. you dont want to risk loosing and paying very high priced court fees

Don't take the ticket. Whatever you have to pay to get it "fixed" will be better than higher insurance.

idk lol its not technically legal but your allowed to do it and its not an enforced law...on a lane road if the center stripe is dotted...passing is permitted as long as you slow down once back on your side

not if breaking the speed limit is required. if the semi was going 45mph, i can see you accelerating to 60mph to pass him (15 more mph is enough) in just a few seconds.

sounds to me like the semi was probably going 60+ already and u wanted to pass him.

i think if u went to court for this, the whole 24mph over thing will be hard to argue with.
