Brake Pads

RE: Brake Pads
Just keep an eye on them, if you consistently speed,or ride the brakes, I'd recommend getting a flashlight and checking pad depth often. Also, pad replacement is easy. If it's your first time to do this you'll need the proper mustangforums how-to, a set plan and a few tools, and an unlimited amount of PATIENCE. It's easy and fun.

How many miles should you get on front brakes of a new mustang before the first pad replacement? Most of the 22,000 miles are local not highway miles. 2005 Model.

I have an 00 mustang with 114K miles and i'm on my 3rd set of brake pads. Just changed them at 107. (so about 50k a set).
Squealing on pads isn't always a sign of wear. It could be glazing or dirt stuck between the pad and rotor. Let the brakes cool off (overnight preferrably) and use high pressure water to spray out the brake area. A lot of times that's all that's needed for dirt and brake dust build up in the caliper, pad, and rotor area. If that doesn't make it go away then you probably glazed your pads. The only way to get rid of the squeal is to replace them or to remove them and take a course sand paper to break the glaze (pads will have a really shiney surface if they are glazed). Sand it perpendicular to the rotation of the rotor on the pad, not parallel.
