What are you doing about holding the boot up?

A custom aluminum ring that mimics the OEM boot holder.
It screws on before the ball with 12x1.25 threads and the
ball screws on up tight to it to lock it on. Got the idea from
a catalog picture and got bored yesterday and whipped one
up right quice. Looks like I have found a no-cost mod that
I can run loose with. Probably have a shifter handle collection
pretty soon.

That's gonna look great.
I wish I had that talent, or at least the tools.
I have to shop my projects out.

Another good alternative for those of use with no machine shop handy is to get a standard 1/2 inch power drill stop (check hardware store in the drill bit section) and mount it under the new shift ball lock nut on the stock shaft with a standard washer slightly bigger than the boot hole width between the stop and lock nut. then work the top of the boot up around the washer.

Prior to using the adapter I used a couple of washers and a nut.
Instead of work the boot over the washer I inverted the boot (like pulling your tshirt off over your head) and tightened it, then clipped the boot back into place.
