Default Shifter Issue

Guys, I am having a strange noise from my shifter (manual) that only started last night. I am used to the rattles and buzzes and accept those, but this is different and annoying as it only just started. It is more of a a loud sqeak or squack sound when I move the shifter from neutral over to the left before I move it up or down into first or second. It sounds to my untrained ear as if it is really crappy squeaky rubber being pressed. Could thisbe a bushing? Should I take it in on Monday or what? Thanks.

I had a similar noise, and still do to some degree. It started noticing it right after I put some leather conditioner on the shifter boot. I think it is the leather rubbing and squeeking in my case. Maybe that is all it is for you as well ???

I don't think that it's the leather. I thought of that and to see I pulled the leather out of the way when pulling it to the left and it's still there. It sounds more like rubber getting squished together if that makes sense.

Remove your shifter ****,boot and trim. Now look in there and see if
you notice any little black pieces of rubber on everything. Its the
rubber boot that seals the shifter to the body. It rubs up against
itself and rubs little pieces of rubber off. It is destroying itself.
I had to put some rubber conditioner on it and then follow up
with some pure silicone spray lubricant. It would have rubbed
a hole right thru within a year had I not lubed it.

I'll take a look, thanks... can I get rubber conditioner and silicone spray lube at a place like autozone?
