gears?

gears?
i know everyone always debates over which gears they should get for there stang, whether its 3.73's or 4.10's. but what happens if you get too high of a gear? wouldnt the acceleration just be harder, and maybe a bit more wheel spin. i have an auto v6 and im not sure on what type to go with.

RE: gears?
There are dozens of thread on this, one near the top of the page. None the less, 3.73's are usually reccomended as best for street driving for added pull while still maintaining low revs while cruising. 4.10s are used to get the best ET at the track usually and are streetable, the revs will jump 1200 or so though.
If you have different sized tires than stock, the ratios will be different and you may have to compensate.

RE: gears?
if you gowith 3.73's you won't go wrong. When you drive conservativly you won't even know they are there but if you get on it.... te car accelarates much better I can spin tires well into 2nd gear. Don't forget to do t-loc as well

for a DD, 4.10s will be 100% fine, you will loose 2 mpg on the highway
3.73s are good for turbos, or if your trapping 115+, which i doubt your doing
tloks are also hit or miss, some like scrming can be in the 400s for power while yet some can break spider gears with as low as 210 rwft.lbs on DRs
however, if you want it cheaper, mpsautosalvage.com has great used 3.73s for $50
you will need a tuner to correct the speedo, and dont forget a bering kit,
stangmods.com has a tlok
drivetrainspecialists.com has detroit true tracs (stronger LSD)

RE: gears?
I would go 3.73 with a 7.5 T-Lok.
*Opinion* I would not go any higher than 3.73 for a DD that sees a fair amount of hwy/open road. I am not a fan of high cruising rpms.*End of Opinion*
The 3.73's with a V6 overdrive ratio & stock tire sizeare not going to be that low anyways. 3.73's offer a nice improvment over the 3.31's and raise yourengine speed~200ish-250ish rpms. The 4.10s will do everything more than the 3.73's: higher rpms, improved acceleration.

RE: gears?
I say if ya gonna go gears go all the way and get the 4.10. If you get the 3.73 and your like me you will always wonder what the 4.10 would feel like and eventually get it anyway.
BTW going from 3.73 to 4.10 would be going to a lower gear...gear ratios are bass ackwards
