Default RE: Manual Transmission Warranty Issues

Transmission is out of the car and sitting on a bench with the top cover apart. They are charging me the price of parts plus 4 hours labor at $75.00 per hour. Should be about $500 to fix. Like one of the other posters, I wanted to tell them to put it all back together and I would change the oil and take it to another stealership. That of course would have cost me the 4 hours of labor at $75 per hour. Like I said, I need to buy 2 F-350's within the next month. We will see what the sales department can do.

What they are saying is ridiculous. Bottom line is that the fluid did not cause the transmission failure, unless you put to much/to little in. Call the service manager, call ford corporate, start calling anyone and everyone you can, make their life miserable and they will fix the car.

well if you have to buy ford trucks I certanly wouldnt buy them there. Even if the saleman gets them to do the work under warranty.

Default RE: Manual Transmission Warranty Issues

Intresting discussion, I actually just contacted Royal Purple today to ask them what I should use in my 2005 4.0 manual transmission. They emailed me the following:

We recommend our Synchromax for your manual transmission, but we can not claim Mercon factory approval for the Synchromax as it is an alteration of an ATF with the added performance additives of our Synerlec technology to give improved anti-wear protection above Mercon ATF. The RP Synchromax is our first recommendation but if you are looking at warranty rather than performance – we recommend RP Max ATF as it is red in color and it meets the Mercon specs. The RP Max ATF will have better high temperature performance, improved lubricity, and superior corrosion protection than the factory Mercon factory fill.
The RP Synchromax, has all of this plus it increases the metal to metal protection providing improved wear resistance in the bearings and gears yet allows proper synchronizer to gear hub engagement for smoother shifting, but it is purple in color and would not be recognized by the factory.
Have a great day and thank you for choosing Royal Purple.

I think that pretty much says the same thing the dealership is telling you. RP syncomax may void your warranty and the ATF Max will not as it meets the mercon specs. I think I will be going with the ATF Max in my transmission.
