Default What next for power?

Hmm, read Gash05's post on ported heads, his #'s were inflated at first.seems like I'm not choosing heads till he gets a retune and someright tune#'s.I'm nowlooking into the cheapest chargers around then and see how much that is and what gains I'll see(I think regular X-Charger but not sure how much it runs?), now I'm thinkinbolt-ons cause the boost isprobably tooexpensive. Shorty and longtubes I don't want todob/c there little gains. UDP are a possibility and I should get 7-10rwhp from them(alternator pulley only I think). Any idea where I can get them cheap? would I need a new belt for install? and since Idon't want to screw that install up, how much would a shop charge for install?Any ideas of what I got left to do bolt-on wise(check my sig for what I already have done)? Weight reduction I think is only after the UDP. Any other bolt-ons I missed that I don't have?Thanx ahead of time!

BTW, to let everyone no, Gash's latest dyno #'s say he gained 5-12hp from $1,200+ heads.

Yes, $1200 for ported heads is ridiculous anyway. If they came with custom-ground cams to take advantage of the increased flow, the price would be more in line --a set of fully ported, valved 3.8 heads tend to run between $400-700, and it's not like the intake/exhaust passages on SOHC heads are radically different than OHV heads. Rip. Off.

Depending on how much you want to spend, there's that polished/cooled Vortech kit on the co-lec-tiv for $2600,or a shot of nitrous for a few hundred bucks.v6mustangstuff.com is a good source forUDPs, I seem to remember.

An actual custom dyno tune by a good tuner will net you somegains over even a really good"canned" mailorder tune too, and that should only be a few hundred.

Thanks for all the help Glacial, if it wasn't for u I probably would have wasted my money on the heads in the future. v6mustangstuff.com is where I will get the UDP then, but not sure when cause college just started again and I'm going to be juggling school, schoolwork, andwork and I just barely was able to get enough money for the Aluminum DS. I will probably stop modding cause money and winter coming soon but will start up again inlate January/February depending on weather and if I have cheap mods to do, I will probably have $2k-$3k for mods by then and want to know the best bolt-on left I can do. I'll do udp so knock off a few hundread for them and install. Other than that I'll probably spend a couple hundread on the BMR front sway bar/radiator support removal kit(knock 40lbs off the front of the car) and maybe a cheap lightweight k-member, but I think that's pretty expensive($800+ installed)for the loss of only 30lbs. Does anyone know of any other good gain bolt-ons? Maybe a dyno tune, do u think it'd be worth it after all my mods(check sig)and UDP? Runnin out of options...Thanx ahead of time!

dude, check out the standard output vortech kits, they run about 3200, and the tuner kit runs for about 2700. it looks like you already have a tuner, so if you pick up a set of used injectors, the tuner kit is a good choice, cant beat the price, and it out performs the X, and can get some really nice performance if you bump up the boost a little

edit:
SuperchargersOnline.com
Standard tuner kit: $2,549.00
Standard kit: $3,299.00
H/O tuner kit: $3,449.00
H/O Kit: $4,149.00

Really that low, what boost pressures can I run on the vortech's? Are they reliable, and do they run boost constant? Definitly gonna look at them if there that low, Thanx!

Vortech's (and Shelby's Paxton...which is basically a Vortech) are the most reliable of the supercharger systems. The only spot that MAY ever have a problem is the pump in the Air-Water cooling system. I have never heard of a person with issues on the Vortech, including the water pump. It is the only system that has not had problems in the tune or setup. Procharger is known to have terrible canned tunes (a few people have blown their engines), they have an issue where the air filter rubs on the side of the car, enough to cut holes in the filter, and a few people have had to send their head units to Procharger to get them fixed. Xcharger has had their "Fix" problem, and also the X runs very hot compared to the two other systems.

Their boost is consistent, the only thing is that the standard output runs at around 5psi, when their site says 8psi. I think it is a typo or something, because their h/o kit runs at almost exactly 10psi.

A good DYNO tune will be worth the price if you are looking for the most power N/A, versus a mail-order CUSTOM tune. Rmays06 noticed a nice increase in power after his dyno tune, and his car pulls hard with those 3.73's. A custom tune is great for 99% of the people who want a tuned car (like me - I'm currently running an Evolution tune), but a dyno tune is needed to get the most HP from our 4.0L's.

I cannot give you est'd HP gains on dyno tunes versus canned tunes. On my 4.0L/auto vert when I ran the tune, C&L, and single GT take-off muffler, I pulled 190rwhp and 220# of torque on a Mustang dyno.
