Didn't you just cut off the part that the shift **** screws to?
how did you connect the shift **** back to the shaft?
I left about 6 threads on the shaft ......

also ... I have an aftermarket HU so the radio button reach wasn't an issue ... I have to move my hand anyway ....

Have you tried shifting at WOT near the redline? How bad is the notch?
