Surging
My 05 Mustang 27K miles, has begun surging wildly, when in nutral or clutched , though only occasionally.
Maybe it is when fuel is low. Dealer can't find any problem but tells me not to run gas tank below 1/4 as it overheats fuel pump and this is likely cause of problem
I say its water sucked out by E 10 and as tank gets low it starts passing to engine. Any ideas

RE: Surging
I dont know what to think about the gas tank theory. In my mustang I always try to run the tank pretty empty until I fill it back up on the reasoning that if you leave fuel in it all the time, say 1/4 tank full, that you will get all the nasty things in gas including water settling to the bottom. Many tanks I have pulled on vehicles from around here and you wouldnt beleive whats in the bottom of them. I figure I dont want that in my tank so I always try to run it empty since it was new. My 01 Chevy Blazer is another story. In the past 3 years I have R&R the fuel pump 4 times. Each time with a OEM Delco pump. I always ran the tank empty in it also and after the 2nd pump I was starting to think this wascausing my pump to heatup so I always kept it at 1/2 tank, no change and 2 pumps later I just keep my fingers crossed this one lasts longer. I have putmy meteron it and no current draw, replaced relays thinking I had one sticking, no fix, then replaced the whole in-tank fuel sending assembly this time,I dont know what is wrong with the truck other than it is a Chevy.

RE: Surging
running your tank to E will cause premature failure of the fuel pump. the pump overheats and instead of never changing the fuel pump you will be changing it frequently, as well as pulling all the **** that resides in the bottom of your tank into your pump, and consequently your filter.
if you run it low a lot the filter may be your problem.
