Default Dynos

What is the difference between a mustang dyno and the other kind of dyno, (just forgot what it was called a second ago) and why do they give different numbers. I don't understand. So if I put a 350z on a mustang dyno would the numbers be different on that car as if it where on the other dyno as well?

Not sure, but the dyno jet generally dyno's 1.08-1.12 times the mustang dyno's numbers. Different numbers on the 2 dynos but the same amount of power pretty much.

A car on a Mustang Dyno will produce lower numbers than if it were on a Dyno Jet (with all other atmospheric conditions the same). A rough conversion factor is 7% lower on a MD versus a DJ. Not sure why, but I'm hoping others will chime in.

It depends on the Mustang Dyno and if it is properly calibrated. I have had my car on a DJ twice following it being on the MD at Powerhouse. My car dyno'd 10-12% lower on the PH Mustang Dyno than on a DJ. But it does depend, there is a way to "fudge" the numbers on a MD by entering the wrong parameters for the car.

One thing I will say, the PH Mustang Dyno has predicted my ET's within 2/10ths every time, so I swear by that machine.

When you do the math/science, the MD reads more accurately. Mustang Dynos are not just for Mustangs, they even make AWD dynos lol!!

It just sucks that everybody runs on the Dyno Jet instead of the Mustang Dyno just because they make "nicer" numbers...

dynojets have a standard correction factor. its easier to compare numbers on dynojets from other locations. still not what ud call accurate. but MD can be calibrated differently, so comparing two diff MD's is a joke.

with that being said, a tune done on a MD is probably better.

yeah, i read that MD's are more accurate if done correctly and"truer" when predicting how your car will perform on the street or drag. still, nothing wrong with a DJ.
