why is the top speed so limited?
I had a 1993 Civic coupe that could get up to about 115!
I don't think its displacement was even half of a 4.0!
Is it the gearing of the Mustang?

It doesn't matter how fast it goes. It matters how fast you can get there!

well the tires probably aren't rated for much more than about 125 or so, so I'm sure it's just a safety precaution. Besides that, why would you need to stay at 110+ for any length of time anyway? nobody hits it in a quarter mile without some serious FI.

There was a thread posted here on MF about a stock driveshaft blowing at 115, I wouldn't push my luck on removing the limiter without replacing the driveshaft, that could be deadly.

High gear ratio and high speeds can make for exploding drive shafts. The tires on the Pony Package are P-Zero Nero M+S's, which are W rated as I remember, not to be confused with the regular P-Zero Nero's which are in fact Z rated. The tires that should be suspect to failure are the ones that comes on 16" rims. You will not really find too many engine problems at higher speeds from over reving, because when I was N/A, I brought my car to top speed in 4th gear.

However, no matter how much your car an handle those high speeds, you as a driver cannot for sure. Be safe, not stupid. High speeds are for the ****ty import class (not to be confused with the good imports) with no ability actually accelerate. And we done care if those stupid drivers in their ****ty cars die...

agreed. I only hit my limiter once, just to see what it was and see what it was like. It's really not worth it but I've been there at least. Besides, these were built to cruise in.

just so you know the gear ratios of the stock six arent what limits it to 113 (i have a garmin that said i hit 115 ( i have aftermarket wheels/tires so that might have made a difference), and that POS F**KED ME OVER CAUSE THEN MY DAD SAW IT!) but im not sour about that... but yeah. actually, the gearing of the 6 will allow it to technically hit a higher top speed than other aftermarket (higher ratio) gears, you just wont get there as fast. (im not saying that they infact will hit higher speeds, because you have to have alot of HP to get it up there to begin with) but yeah, its not the gearing. and anyone shouldnt be afraid of higher gears because of speed limiting (i read in a MM&FF article that 4.10's max out at about 180, so no worries! lol)
