I have driven manuals for over 15 years, and i swore my next car would be an auto. I have no regrets getting an auto stang, and its not sluggish at all. Remember there is a learning period with the computer for auto's that remembers how you drive. A manual transmission doesn't make it faster than an auto, a very knowledgable driver however can.

Who cares what other people think, it's my car, and it's the way I like it.

i had a 04 v6 stang with a stick, and yeah it seemed to bark the tires easier than the auto on my 07 stang....but....

Autos add more resale to your stang (the first thing the dealer will say when you try to trade it in, is "if only it were an auto..."
Autos keep you from shifting and shifting and shifting, which is a pain... (90% of the time) (10% its cool to shift)
Autos are sluggish, unless you get them tuned, which i have
Manual in these cars is the least sporty manual there is
jmo...

I've always had a stick.. and while there are plenty of times I would love my car to be a stick.. I am happy it's not. The 5-speed auto in these cars are actually really nice when tuned. The ability to adjust the shift pressure is a big plus.

My guess is all it would take is a one peice aluminium drivshaft in an auto to take a big chunk out of the auto-stick HP gap.

every time someone compliments my car they ask if its auto or a stick, and them say something like "oh that sucks"
just how much faster are manuals than autos?
what are the benefits?

It's fine you have a stick, rwhp difference isn't that much between an auto and a manual and if you have a tuner/cai combo, you can take a manual. My friends are always joking like, see here, there should be a stick and there should be a clutch pedal on the floor, then a minute later they'll say, can I test drive it. LOL!

i wanted an auto from the get go and am very satisfied with it. no regrets. i would only want a manny on anything higher than a base GT, obviously. seems like it also depends on the environment you live or drive in. i'm half and half LA city traffic and suburb city traffic so the auto is perferct for me. cruising through hollywood, santa monica and downtown long beach is MUCH more comfortable with my auto. but i will admit, the auto wouldn't be as much fun if i hadn't got my stang custom tuned.

Yeah, so how's that manualworking out for you in bumper-to-bumper traffic? Is your foot tired yet??? HA!
I drive the stang in areas that isn't congested and avoid the major routes near rush hour.
I have a DD that is an automatic.....so my foot is fine.

lol..the 4th and 5th fastest s197s on TMS are 6ers, and they are also autos. They are also the only 6ers on that list....

Not to mention that the fastest N/A s197 V6 which runs 13.8 is an auto....

wow, interesting......so does that mean that you got to shift almost perfectly to benefit from a manny?
