it looks so much better with duals

MEASURE TWICE CUT ONCE! LIKE OTHERS SAID . I USED BLUE MASKING TAPE HTEN MARKED THAT TRIMED IT WITH A DREMIL TOOL THEN FINISHED IT OFF WITH THE DRUM SANDER ATTACHMENT TO SMOOTH THE EDGES AND BRING IT TO MY LINE. JUST TKE YOUR TIME ! I ALSO USED TOUCH UP PAINT TO DO THE EDGES BECAUSE THE BLACK BUMPER SHOWS BIGTIME ON THE YELLOW.

I don't know why spend money and put dual exhaust on a sixer. Better mpg? Do you put on the GT emblem too?
So are you saying all the other brand sixers that comewith duals shouldn't have them? Like Acura's, Ford Fusion, Edge....I could go on and on, but I think you get my point!
I'm not sure I do. The cars you mention aren't Mustangs; different designs, different installations, different responses to different modifications. No telling how many or which of them is a "marketing" dual setup as well, eh?

My friend the Racer Who Has Contacts Throughout The Industry said he discussed dual vs. single exhaust on Ford V6 engines with an engineer who did much of the exhaust development work for Ford. The engineer said the expense and effort required to equip a Ford V6 with a working dual exhaust system was far in excess of the value of benefits accrued; there were some measurable but small gains in high-end power, but not enough to warrant the investment on a performance basis. A well-designed single exhaust did nearly as much. Speaking of a stock or lightly-modified engine.

I conclude that installing dual exhaust on a S197 V6 Mustang is an aesthetic matter, not a practical one; that is, if you like the look, feel, and sound, duals is good. I like 'em, they look good, some of them sound good, they make a lot of difference how I feel driving a car, but until those considerations become more important to me than better handling or proven performance enhancement like Cold Air Induction and a Tune, I'll stick with a single FRPP M-5230-GTA. I view that as a practical solution, at present. And it doesn't sound all that bad, either:

Just unearthed this six-month-old post to show I succumbed to the appeal of duals. That's the FRPP M-5230-V6 conversion peeking out from the back in my sig photo.

I think my (three-weeks) experience with the duals validates my assertions made last December: I like the symmetrical appearance, the sound, andthe feel of driving a dual-ed V6 Mustang, but fourteen eighth-mile drag race passes failed to show any performance advantage over the single exhaust with a GT takeoff muffler (I was deceived; it was not a GTA, as I was led to believe. Live and learn.)

Here are the sound clips, for comparison. I could show time slips, but you'd have to trust me on the variables, so why not for the documentation, too?

Worst case is you just get a pair of scissors and go at it yourself. Lol tho some dual exhaust actually fit right underneath the stock v6 bumper so one tip has a hole and the other doesnt. Id say ask a body shop your comfortable with to do it, cant be more than a few hundred bucks to just cut another hole in your bumper.

If i had the money i would get duals on my sixxer. However more for cosmetic reasons than actual hp gain. Tho im quite fine with my single exhaust until then, i still get compliments and thumbs up with a single exhaust just as much as the other guys with dual exhaust. I think its the whole "whos dick is bigger" kinda thing.

You know what I find interesting is all this talk about duals being "cosmetic"....well, aren't your rims, louvers, black out panels, hood scoop, side scoops, rear spoiler, shorty antenna, GT rocker panels, side mirror covers, stripesand so on and so on are ALL COSMETIC? You like the look don't you??? So what if duals don't give you more hp, it sure looks good and sounds good. Nuff said.

I think most people do duals for the sound, and looks. Not for the crappy HP gain. I'll be adding my duals in a few weeks, but I spent the money and just purchased a GT takeoff bumper.
