Exhaust dampeners...
the rattle from my car at stops is starting to build up again and its really bugging me when i have passengers with the music down. kinda embarrasing when they ask if something is loose. i'm sure something is kinda loose or tapping in the the center dash/shifter area but no one seems to have been able to pinpoint the culprit. anyways, i notice that the stock setup had rubber dampeners welded on the piping whereas my jba setup is free of any attachments. i'm wondering if welding on rubber dampeners would help with the rattling. has anyone tried this? thanks.

RE: Exhaust dampeners...
I had problems with the JBA H pipe kit. The first easy thing is to replace the JBA hangers with Ford ones. That will take some rattle out. Next, look at the over axle pipes. If they are closer than an inch away from the spare wheel well, they are too close. When they heat up they will move too close, and with the crappy JBA hangers, they will rattle against the well.
When looking for rattles, you have to check when the car is hot. When the car cools down the position of the pipes change.

I had mine put back on a month ago or so. Didn't really help. I had more of a resonance thing though. A good generic term would be a "dash rattle". Can't really hear any one spot that it originates, and only happens to me at 750 and 1500 rpms. Definitely not something rattling in the rear.
I should say that having the dampener back on might have done something. I couldn't get the noise to happen overChristmas, but last night it was back when i was at a stop sign. It seems more hit or miss now. Hopefully the cold weather here in Iowa is the cause.

I was told the heat shield near the transmission also should be pulled/bent down gently away from the chassis of the car, it can get too close and rattle also. I have not tried this yet, but my rattle has gone away before i tried it.

i'l check that out. so you think if something is loose/rattling in the rear, it can still cause the noise to generate in the center dash/shift area?

I upped my idle RPM by 100 and the vibration went away.
I took off my entire exhaust system - HEADERS TO THE MUFFLER! and put them back with laser precision and it was still there.
Upped RPM - perfect.
