The Rattle-Fix Thread
A few weeks ago, I figured out a way to silence the buzzing/rattling sound associated with the Shaker stereo - http://www.MustangForums.com/m_4361483/tm.htm With that done, I became obsessed with finding out the cause of the hard shake/rattle in my passenger rear quarter every time I'd go over a bump. For a long time, I was convinced it was just a misaligned top, and was just the cost of driving a convertible. Then I noticed a lot of coupe owners were experiencing the same problem.
So I went poking around tonight and found out it wasn't the top at all. It was the floor of the trunk. Unfortunately, the panel beneath the trunk carpeting is made out of three pieces of plywood connected by a couple of sheet metal joints, and the pieces don't all sit flush against the metal. In the places where the plywood doesn't sit flat, it has a tendency to flex and bang against the metal whenever I drive over the slightest bump. My solution: foam tape against the metal in the areas where the trunk floor doesn't sit flush. Now the floor still flexes, but there's nothing for it to bang against, other than nice, quiet foam. Hope this helps some of you, 'cause it's removed the single biggest annoyance I've had with this car.
BTW - I also tracked down a little squeak in the interior rear quarter panel, the one with the speaker grill in it. The forward lip of this plastic panel, which rests inside the vertical edge of the door opening, has a rubber moulding inside to keep the plastic edge from scratching the paint. Unfortunately, the plastic can rub against the rubber moulding when going over a bump and produce a slight but noticeable squeak. My solution there: a strip of double-sided tape between the edge of the plastic panel and the rubber moulding. I am squeak free. For now. But I'm also obsessed with having the most quiet vert Mustang around. I'm thinking about Dynamatting the entire interior.

Update. After all this, I still had the center console rattle that has been driving many of us nuts. So, I fixed that and decided it might be helpful to make a list of all the rattles we've found and fixed. I'll start.
1. Center console rattle. TSB 06-4-1 didn't help. So I took out the center console plastics and located a loose wiring harness banging into the back of the stereo. Moved the harness. Rattle gone.
2. Shaker-related rattles. Plastic toilet shims into thin crevasses behind door pockets. Foam strips beneath door switch bezels. Dynamat alongside driver's side door switch. Eliminated Shaker related buzz/rattles.
3. Passenger rear quarter loud rattle/bump/squeak. Trunk floor not sitting flush against car. Placed foam strips in loose spots. Removed interior rear quarter panel. Double sided tape was only temporary solution. Sprayed silicone lube on rubber moldings. Squeak and rattle completely gone.
Feel free to add your own.

I cannot help it I have to add my 2 cents. Sure we work hard for our money and want the best for it. But people must realize that you bought a car that anyone can get for under $20k. A brand new car in this price range will always have rattles and little quirks like so. This is why high end cars cost so much. They wont have the rattles and so on. So dont down the shaker, or the mustang, because you get what you paid for. If you want a ride that is absolutely quiet with no other nuisances pay $60K and get a Navigator.
yea im not going to lie...i did my trunk a long time ago..i just forgot about it
sorry guys i coulda helped u out earlier! but also instead of using foam tape i just laid a coupleold towels down over the metal. worked for me too!

I have several squeaks and rattles which I wonder if anyone has fixed/experienced...
1. Manual shifter leather vibrating/rattling
2. A rattling noise behind the drivers side dashboard (seems to be coming from behind the front vent).
3. A rattling on the drivers side door either coming from the window switch or door speaker.
4. A metal on glass or metal on metal noise coming from behind the drivers side rear seats.
Thanks for any input....... This is on an '07 Pony coupe
