trailer pullin
Ha Ha Ha I have been reading this Post from the start and have got a BIG kick out of it. I am a veteran so I am all for doing what you want to what you have and as long as your happy and not hurting anyone just do what you want its called freedom. I just have enjoyed reading everyone’s reactions on BamaDan wanting to install a trailer hitch on his Mustang. Poor BamaDan something tells me poor BamaDan aint going to share all his thought with us anymore. Don’t worry BamaDan if Forest Gump was here I think he would tell you I don't see anything wrong with it and that’s all I got to say about that.
I don’t know if this is any help. I also have a 1973 Datsun 240z that I autocross occasionally. I put a small hitch on it for a very small trailer that carries my race tires, jack, tools, etc. It seems to work great. If I compare the Mustang to the Z, the ‘stang is a far superior tow vehicle.

And Bamadan, don't worry we are just giving opinions, please take what you need out of this thread, and ignore what you don't
If you go by the 1000# tow rating, that would be a 100# tounge weight on the car. When I put 150# of winter weight ballast in my trunk for traction, it only takes the fender wells down 1 inch. So clearance wouldn't be an issue. The GWV would though. We don't have a lot of slack for passengers and cargo. Somethimg like 750# or so.
no harm done, fellas. i asked for opinions, and i appreciate any feedback.
thanks for lookin out for me, for those who did(:
as far as looks are concerned, i'm not too worried about it. i know it isnt what mustangs were meant for, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. i've got no problem with someone never wanting to pull a trailer.
the only response i would have to that is that ford is an all-american motor company, and us all-american southern boys tend to do things a little unconventional sometimes.
i wont pull any oak trees down, but i may need to take some extra luggage someplace sometime, and i sure dont wanna go much of anywhere and leave the stang behind!

I disagree, I think 90% of us here drive our stangs daily, I know mine is my daily driver. That still does not sway my decision about putting a hitch on a Mustang. I have put alot of things from groceries to edging stones in my trunk, but if I need to haul anything it will either go in my wifes SUV or I ask a friend. It is personal preference, I just think it's wrong

I agree, to many people on this board don't seem to understand that many of us drive our Mustangs every day for everything. It isn't a second car or a show car, it is my basic transportation, it just happens to look good doing it. While I don't think I would ever use it to pull a trailer, it gets completely loaded full of crap for long trips to the point where the drivers seat is all the space I have. It is just a car after all, and Ford will build more, so when this one wears out in 7-8 years I will just buy another one.
I believe the car is rated for 1000 lbs, as stated in the manual. It has a strong motor and rear end, but I am unsure how the transmission and brakes would react to a trailer. It is probably best advised not to approach or exceed the 1000 lb rating on a regular basis.

Anyways, I agree too. I use my 'stang every day to get from point A to B. I just look better getting there, heh.
