dont think its anything that you'll ever notice but i guess its decent peace of mind. the claim is that air turbulance from the engine/fan can slightly disrupt the incoming air but its mostly for helping your intake bring more cooler air from the front fender area rather than a mix of hot and cool from all over. i think it might make most the difference after a warmed up engine in the middle of the day. just speculation. some reputable intake manufactures might explain this better.
