The "black part" is just a hanger.
I think they meant the little blackish cannister at the bottom of pic, which would be to the right on the car. It's a vibration dampener. Removing it does essentially nothing, except possibly cause the muffler to vibrate...

Our cars don't have resonators. I removed the muffler and went with a straight pipe. A resonator is a good thing to have to smooth out the sound. I'll get around to installing one eventually. I've been laggin because I want to convert to Pypes True Dual Exhaust with anX-Pipe.
Correct, there are no resonators on our cars.

And running astraight pipe is facking obnoxiously loud and sounds harsh too. Not nice for the neighbors.

(I too have a set of true duals with X pipe ready to go on, waiting for warmer weather...)

Mine isn't as loud and obnoxious as you are thinking lol. I've mentioned before that there has been some fabrication to the pipe (slats inside) to muffle the loud/high-pitch sound. Not quiet like a stock muffler but not loud like a straight cut-off.
