replacement axle shafts?
So I had my car parked for most of the winter, but i did take it out a couple times to play in the snow. The last time i did this i side swiped a curb. Now that i have been driving it again i have noticed a slight vibration in the breaks. I had a buddy drive it in front of me and sure enough i have a slightly bent axle. ( i also took the wheels off on jack stands and put it in gear.. the wheel is straight and the axle wobbles. ) I need to get a new passanger side rear axle and the dealer wants $450!!! For just thatone!! Anyone know of a place online i can order? I have been also keeping in check with the local wrecking yard.. and no luck yet.

If the axle is bent then the wheel should be bent as well. A "swipe" of the curb doesn't sound like a hard enough impact to bend an axle. And if it was i can't see how the wheel wold escape unbent so I'd bet the wheel is probably bent and not the axle. Did you try swapping the wheels around to see if the problem follows the wheel?

oh no..the axle is definatly bent.. and the swipe was more of an impact than it sounds.. it took a nice little chunk out of my wheel. and yes the wheel is a little bent as well, but nothing too horrible. the break on that side is hanging up a little every turn of the axle... so i know i need a new one.

Ken, if you gotta pay big bucks for some new rear axle items, why not go the distance and put in a 8.8 complete axle assembly with 3.73 or 4.10 gears and a t-lok. You can purchase an entire new rear axle assembly on some of the take-off websites for under a $1000. It easy to put these in yourself. My thoughts, Jack.

I'd take it to a shop and see if they agree it is the axle and not the rotor or caliper bracket. I wonder if it might actually be the axle tube itself . The more I think about it the more likely I thinking that might be, which if so would give you the perfect excuse to go with the 8.8 take off. Good Luck!
