Doing a GT500 6 speed conversion will run $4000-$5000 for parts (not including install labor)
Putting an 05+ GT TR-3650 5-spd in is also possible, and much cheaper (figure a grand to $1500 for parts depending on how good a deal you find on a tranny.

3650s are about as strong as a t5 a 6060 or a tko would be a better bet

Put in the BMW M3's SMG transmissions. There is one for sale right now for $2800 that I know of. It is more powerfull than either the automatic or the manual in the GT and can take the horsepower of a stock GT500, but is cheeper than the transmission already listed from steeda. It has both launch control, and is well known as one of the strongest transmissions as well as one of the best transmissions for drifting.
Also This transmission is worth .5 seconds to .75 seconds in the quarter mile over any other transmission. Also the transmission is actually an aftermarket getrag that is just mechanically beefed up, meaning they sell aftermarket instlation and control modules for it from getrag and they will help you install it too.
Further if 6 speeds impress you, then the fact that this one has seven will be even better.
Here's some examples of it's abbility at drifting, it's much easier to do when the gears shift instantly:

hey guys yeah it sucks haha
and ya its the tranny cause we can push it at there is no noise coming from the rear end, no clanking or anything, in fact
i wish it was the rear end then i would just throw an 8.8 rear end in her
and i also know its the tranny cause i abused the crap out of it, i drift haha clutch kicks
although i did notice that the clutches in the posi were sticking that morning of the race, indicating that my posi was wearing out
also from the drifting, but in a straight line that shouldnt bother anything cause the rear wheels are traveling the same distance
it blew once i went to let go of the clutch, didnt even start the burnout and poof, not a quite one either a pretty loud bang
so i got a lot of work to do but does anyone know of the price tag and numbers on the GT500 tranny? its a route i might take
or if i can get away without ford knowing i have the tuner then ill just replace it on the warranty
