Default Adding a LSD

Is it worth it to just add the t-lock and keep the stock 3.31 gears??

If you're even considering changing out gears in the future, it's worth the wait to do both the t-lok and gear install at the same time. Unless, of course, you have spare cash you don't mind throwing away for labor on a rear-end... twice.

And if that's the case, allow me to help you with some investments

Pretty much what he said.

I just asked because you might not even really need a LSD...

For the cost of installing a LSD, you might be able to find a wrecked GT S197 in a local junk yard with a 3.31:1 8.8" rear end (which has a t-lok) and swap it yourself. Ebay will sometimes have them cheap too. Justa thought...

All automatic S197 GT's come with the 3.31:1 gearing. All stick-shift S197 GT's in the first few years of production came with the 3.55:1 gearing standard, but then they became an option in 2007 or 2008 (with 3.31's standard). The only exception to this is the S197 Bullitt, which comes from the factory with 3.73:1 gears.

If I could go back I would SERIOUSLY consider just getting an 8.8 rear end...

Why?

- Cost rivals installing t-lok and gears
- I plan to upgrade to a V8 some day
- My rear-end whines
- It will break...just don't know when

The main reason I didn't is weight. I never plan on going FI on the 4.0, but I do want to run 13's NA. Every pound matters to me.

If you're going to open it up, do both at the same time. But, swap in an 8.8 if you can. A bit more weight, but a lot stronger.
