Stereo system options
okay so im looking to do a stereo system...i have the shaker 500 currently and i want to add 2 subs in the trunk with a custom box and amp...what else do you guys reccomend doing, new speakers or anything else that would help out a little. Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks
Thanks
Upgrade the head unit. The Shaker 500 is great..until you put something else in, and realize how much potential the stock speakers/subs have that wasn't being utilized.
I installed an Alpine iDA-X001 unit a week after I picked up my car and it's made a huge difference. First, I dont know if you have an Ipod or not, but if you're using the stock AUX input then you should know the quality isn't so spectacular. When I was using the stock AUX input for the Shaker 500 I noticed that some songs played at different volumes, some sounded hollow, poppy, etc.
Since i've installed the Alpine, everything sounds MUCH better, plus the alpine charges the Ipod while it's connected. Also, the alpine head unit takes control of the ipod, so my ipod literally hasn't left my armrest since I bought the stereo (will be taking it out at night during the winter for freezing reasons though). I used to have to pickup the ipod and try to find what songs i wanted to listen to.. now I just use the head unit and i never have to worry bout recharging. The bass coming from the subs in the doors also dramatically increased AND the alpine lets you adjust the Subwoofer volume which the stock unit does not. That means I can turn down the subs while keeping the rest of the speakers up high.. there's literally a million reasons why I'm over-satisfied with the new unit.. but that's just me. You'll find that nearly every high-end head unit will utilize the stock system better than the stock head unit.
As far as install went? everything directly connected with the existing wiring, just had to buy a wiring harness for 24$. Let me know if you want pics of it installed, or just go to alpines site and look it up, its a nice unit.
P.S. i dont sell radios or work for alpine, so i'm not tryin to pitch anything, just giving the opinion i have on my own setup =)

i had shaker 500 for 2 days
now i have...
panasonic head unit with dvd/tv tuner/mp3/cd player/reverse backup cam with touch screen + remote
Boston acoustic speakers in the entire car, + 2 JL1 10" subs and 2 amps (1 alpine, and 1 JL1)
compared to shaker 500, like a am radio compared to a live concert.

Shedric, Id be carefull about cutting holes in your door panels. You dont NEED those subs in the door panels to have a good sounding system. If you do decide to cut the holes, maybe get someone who knows what theyre doing so its a clean install. The components you listed are good pieces. Id try the setup without the door panel speakers first, then if your still not satisfied, you can choose to cut into the doors or what-not afterwards. This way you will A) have a sweet sounding system. B) maybe see that you dont really need the door spreakers and C) thus save more money. Keep us posted.
