Because 20's look awesome. Chrome or Black. No real handling benefits and probably slow you down a little bit (I haven't noticed much, still chirped on my 1-2 shift). Paid less than $1250 for rims, tires, lugs (gorilla), mounting and balancing. My combo weighs exactly 60lbs a piece. I forget how much stock weighs, but they're probably 15lbs less. I really don't care though seeing as how I have 100lbs of boom in the trunk anyway.

Also, why are so many people talking about 20's screwing up your gear ratio? My 20's diameter is 27.3", stock is 27.2". Big f'ing difference.

Also, I'm not lowered and won't be lowering. I think my car sits just fine the way it is now. I'm sure the car audio helps lay the *** down.

These are what I plan to get:

18x 9.5 in the front, 18 x 10 in the back. I like them because they're light weight and can fit a big brake package. Plus they're not donk'd out chrome rims (IMO i despise chrome, I've only seen a few cars that have managed to look good with chrome wheels).

I had the opportunity to upgrade when I ordered my Gt to the 18" polished rims. Those are the biggest rims my car will ever see. They look great and I have to say are the easiest rims I have EVER had to clean on any car I have owned. I see some of the rims on here and know I would have to take hours cleaning them.
I like the old school look of the polished 18's. The tires still show enough meat on sidewall, and the car looks and rides great.
So I will stick with my upgraded "stock" 18's. I think if I put anything bigger on the car I would look very silly driving it. --- I have not been a teenager for many many years!

I like the look of my 20's...

though I've noticed no difference in acceleration, even if I did, I wouldn't have a problem with it. it's not like I'm out on the road every day trying to squeeze out every last drop of hp that the car can muster.

My car is at stock ride height with the exception of Roush rear springs, (Perfect IMO).

I must say I do like the look of 20's with a taller tire, something along the lines of a 255/35/20 front and a 275/40/20 or even better 295/35/20.

Then I think the bigger wheel with a taller tire fits the look of the car better since it is so huge.

Some day I would love to do a C series bodykit or similar, but I really hate to give up any acceleration for it since I like that so much too.
If you notice the change with the 20's it will be marginal in the acceleration dept IMO as I have the 20's and low profile, and a whipple with less RWHP! I will never go less than 20" rims on this car! JMO and yes I do feel the bumps a bit more and I am staggered so no rotations but you can do that with 18's as well. You have 5-7 RWHP to spare so I would consider it! I am getting the Baer big brakes in the front and the 14" rotors (eraidspeed) in the back. You can shed the weight elsewhere in the drivetrain and suspension and interior without having to give up the 20's IMO....go for it!

Dang you Last night I had myself all talked into just getting 18" Anthracite DD bullets with huge DR's on the back, and staying a sleeper. Then I read what you wrote and now I am thinking possibly 20's again.

The only thing is, I know eventually I will do a retro inspired body kit, but I cant see repainting a 2 year old factory paint job. Especially since the car is still a DD and gets rock chips constantly.

If only I could win the lottery

Default 20" wheels on V6?

I'm researching which wheels I'd want on my V6 'stang and, while it LOOKS good & it's trendy to run 20" wheels, I'm not willing to accept much of a drop in acceleration caused by excessive rotational mass.

Since this issue is MUCH more critical with a V6 (not as much power/acceleration to "spare" as a GT), I'd like to hear from anyone who's running 20" wheels on their V6.. I'd especially like to know what kind of acceleration drop you experienced.. What size wheels did you have before and for how long? Discuss your perceptions of the difference in performance, handling, and ride comfort.

Let's hear it!
