I think your dad is probably really smart, but he's just playing dumb about the cai and tune.

He probably just doesn't want you going nuts on your car. Especially if he's been through all that himself.

He knows it starts with an intake and tune and just keeps going and going

+1. My simple first mod of "dual exhaust" was a long time ago it seems...looking back from what she's become so far .

My dad does the exact same thing. His first response is always no. So i dont ask him first. I tell my mom(she doesnt care what i do as long as i dont go to jail for it and it wont cost her money). Then while Im ordering it I tell my dad or i just start talking about the stuff and get him into it. After that he's like ok. He loves every mod iv done so far yet he stills says no every time. Just a dad thing. Doesnt want me to get hurt from driving to fast or break the car. Just uses patience and try not to get upset with him and usually they will come around. Also if his friends are around that have known him for a long time, tell him then, it will bring up stories about his teenage car days and will give u the chance to say well u did it and u didnt die or something like that. Good luck

One nice thing about the tuner is that you can check diagnostic codes on 96+ Fords. I've used my tuner a couple times to look up codes on our 03 Taurus and our 06 Taurus. If you have other Ford cars in the family, bring up that argument.

Another benefit of the tune is better driveability. The tune gets rid of the factory throttle lag and in my opinion makes the car safer. I don't really have to worry about merging onto the highway now that I'm tuned. Before you would have to hit the gas a bit early and hope the car starts accelerating at the right time.
