Adding midpipe resonators? What length?
Hi guys..
I have had my duals with Pypes Violator mufflers on my car for a few weeks, and although they sounds awesome around town and at WOT, the setup gives me a drone headache on the highway. I drive about 70 miles each day at steady highway speeds of 75-80 or so. My question is... I want to keep my Violators, but cut down on the drone as much as possible on the highway. I do not want to try Dynamat, since my trunk is already well insulated. Now, how about adding mid pipe resonators into the mix??? Two, straight glasspacks maybe? I could get some Cherrybombs, or Dynamax and have them put in the middle of the mids. But, what length should they be? I found 8" and 18" in 2.5 OD. If I have them put in, should I have them staggered in position, so that the drone will be reduced? If I put them in the same spot on both mids, then the mufflers would be generating the same drone/frequency sound out both mufflers at the same time. I think that I'd want to avoid that, right? What would you guys suggest. My thought is that two small glasspacks in the mids, would mellow down the Violators a bit, and cut out the darn highway drone at 1700-2300 rpm range. Suggestions welcome.....

well, it sounds like you have the right plan. I have borla stingers and they drone on the highway as well, and i am looking into the same set up as you. Im interested in how it turns out for you, I will be doing the same in a month or so. Most muffler shops have a stock of midpipes and if you go to a reputable place they should know what to do...

I had the same drone issues with flowmaster 40 series on my car. Installed two 18" magnaflow round resonators on the midpipe and it didn't do anything...
I ended up taking off the flowmasters and just running with the 18" magnaflows midpipes only and they have been on my car since ZERO drone
