Default CAI

So I know that there has been a lot of debate and discussion over what CAI kits are available, pricing, HP gains, and which trigger the CEL. I just want to get it all in one place. The Steeda says it requires a tune, the MMR says it doesn't, but I've read it often sets of the CEL, the K&N apparently does not. Who has what out there? What do you all think is the best option if I don't want to tune right away and dont want the CEL?

Steeda, MMR, MAC, K&N... I think these are the only choices right now. AFE's offering will be out soon and the results look good. I believe JLT and C&L will eventually bring us more choices.

Out of these, MMR and K&N claim they don't require a tune. AFE probably won't need a tune either. Though, all of these intakes will benefit from a tune, I'm sure. I think if I were purchasing a CAI today and not wanting a tune, I think the safest bet would be the K&N. But, the MMR with the high flow inlet tube looks tempting.

A lot of these manufactueres post their CAI gains on their sites, but the maximum gains listed can only be obtained with a tune. Just seems more than a bit misleading. K&N has been the only one that I've seen to post their gains without tuning.

I talked to a K&N rep over e-mail, and he said the 8'ish HP advertised was w/o tune. They said with a good tune and no other mods, you could expect around 15-17 HP total gain from the intake.

I'm running the Steeda v6 intake with tune, all I can say is that the gain is VERY noticeable, and there is barely any additional noise, just a faint whistle. I don't think it's worth 350 for a crappy intake with no tune that will only give you 8hp. Go all the way, it's really worth it.

if you buy the Steeda CAI are you able to do the tune yourself or do you need to take in to have it done

Flapjack, let me know when you've put it in, I am curious as to sound change, actual improvement, and most importantly the damn CEL. Thanks in advance
