It dont matter
2 point, 4 point, 6 point, 100 point.....
the S197 is stiff nuff without the brace.
U got an A-Arm brace?
thats where the $$ should be spent for performance wise
verts, it kinda helps but coupe S197 on stock tires street driven,
waste of $$ unless you just want the eye candy aspect of it...

Now the 3 point EDELBROCK brace is the only brace that does
anything on the street with OEM tires...

^^ That's kinda what the old Stangs used to have. I don't know how this chassis will hold up after 10 or 15 years, but right now it seems pretty stiff.

Does anybody know how much difference there is in clearance that I would have to account for or would it just be better to flip the bill for one of the V6 ones on the market.
your sig lists a Shelby STB ? But if you like the look, get one, they won't do much to help handling. I see V6 braces on flea-bay all the time for $50. They're always the single bar though. I'd think with a little bar stock and a welder it wouldn't be hard to fab up whatever you like for cheap. The latest Hot Rod mag has a how to for a triangulated bar. It's for a GM which surely could use something to help firm up it's weak unibody. But the S197 doesn't really need one unless you're pushing it hard enough with a very good suspension system underneath to tell the difference.

I thought I read someplace that the firelwall on these cars didn't have a structural spot to attach these, to really make a difference.

I may be wrong, but has anybody else heard that?

Almost any spot along the firewall is structural according to
the shop manual about repairing said item...
Spread the load enough and anything can become structural.

We don't have a true firewall...
It's just a pocket that holds the wiper mechanism, therefore too weak for any gains IMO.
One would have to connect the middle part to the real firewall via a 3/16" thick (at least) piece of metal to get full effect of that brace.
The S197 is plenty strong, it doesn't need bracing

But I do agree, it's the most effective one...

Don't discount anyone...
Everyone has some to say, just crisscross everything that was said and usually, you should come pretty close to the truth.
Bullsh#tters and morons don't last here and they're easy to spot, everybody else contribute their piece and it works...
