rear end humming
i just installed the 8.8 rear end and swapped the flange..
now when im crusing at lik 45-60 in 5th gear or 4th gear. i get these humming noises when im accelerating. i bought this rear end from the junk yard. and the rear end has 41,000 miles on it. i was wondering do i need to change the differential oil??

Its synthetic OEM, good for 100,000 miles.
If you do replace it, use synthetic and add the friction modifier.
I dont think a lube swap will help the noise.
If its noisy, its past new lube help.
You must lube first for lasting results.
Not the other way around...
Try rotating your driveshaft 90 degrees from where it is bolted to
the cobra flange and note the results.
Then another 90 degrees and so on until you find the quiet orientation...
I would change the posts title or the jokes will start flying burying the good info....

I'm relieved that I'm apparently not the only one whose mind headed straight for the gutter after reading the thread title
You might also check if the new axle has the dampening weights on boths ends (large heavy metal blocks designed to reduce axle noise. Ford calls them "tuning dampers")

ISSUE
Some 2005-2010 Mustang vehicles may exhibit excessive axle whine noise.
ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
This condition may be corrected by installing tuned dampers on the rear axle assembly, if not already installed.
1. Check the rear axle assembly for the presence of tuned dampers.
2. If not present, then install tuned dampers. Refer to the installation instruction sheet included in the damper kit.
NOTE NO DRILLING IS REQUIRED IF DAMPER MOUNTING HOLES ARE PRESENT. VEHICLES BUILT AFTER 11/15/2004 ALREADY HAVE THE REQUIRED DAMPER MOUNTING HOLES.
3. If whine noise persists, then continue with normal diagnostics per Workshop Manual, Section 205-00.
