Default Hurst shifter

That was one of the first mods I did, the big problem I encountered was that without the rubber isolator of the stock stick, all kinds of noise was transferred into the car. My solution, after changing back and forth several times was to cut the stick out of the stock unit, machine down the lower end to fit to the Hurst mount. I also shortened the upper end of the shifter, using the bottom hole as the top and drilling a new, smaller bottom hole to keep the whole thing from being too tall. I now have the short throw, and it took about 90% of the noise away. I also went so far as to cut away the upper stick portion of the stock stick and weld in a different stick, I now have two sticks that I switch back and forth to fit my mood. One is a short, straight stick with polished **** and boot retainer, the other a curved Hurst stick with a T handle and the Hurst boot retainer. I might have been ok with the noise when I was young, but it drove me crazy now!

I replaced the 2 Hurst supplied bolts with longer ones and added a couple of nuts, then torqued them down. Rattle went away.

In trying to quiet mine down I tried using the original rubber bushings with the Hurst, it did make the shifter a little less firm and did nothing to lessen the noise, The only remedy I found was the mod that I described in my earlier post. I have now put the Hurst urethane mounts back in and have no increase in noise. I even made an insulator between the rear mount and the floor and that did no good either. The sound just traveled through all the solid connections into the car!
