Alot depends on how it's been maintained during those 80K+ miles. My 2006 is at 135K I believe and still running strong. I'm sure you can get 200K+ out of it easy with proper maintenance.

It will cease to function on October 13, 2017.

As So Cali stated, there are quite a # of variables. Even 2 identical vehicles maintained nearly identical can vary greatly on when the car is no longer economical to maintain. Howeveer, a number of forum members are over 150k miles and, IF the car was well maintained by the previous owner and you don't skimp on preventive maintenance, then I don't see why 200k miles should be much of a problem. All i CAN say is that it's not a Toyota or Honda or Nissan so expect it to nickle and dime you to some extent in that 125k on up time frame. If it doesn't, then great!

Like has been said, lots of variables so hard to predict.

My 2006 went 203,000 before I ordered the 2013 and sold the old car. That was after 2 seasons with a 75 shot of nitrous, which I pulled off the car at 90,000 miles so I could install the Xcharger. When I sold it the car was still making mid 12 second passes.

As far as "nickel and diming" me, it really didn't have many issues.
At 178,000 the alternator went out,

At 150,000 I replaced the front ball joints and steering rack only because I got a good buy on everything coming off a Roush with only 10,000 miles on it so it was easier to replace the entire rack rather than just the tie rod ends

At 199,800 miles the thermostat housing gave way

Other than that pretty much just regular maintenance items.

I have the 4.0 OHC in my 2000 Explorer, and she is going strong at 150k without a whole lot of fuss. I would assume the engine would be fine in a Mustang too.

The only worry I would have is if it belonged to a kid that though it was a hot rod.

Or a Mustang Forum member...

I have almost 50K on my 07 V6 and other than
routine maintenance, it is still going strong.
Cars are not 'drive until something major goes
wrong', they require love and care for longevity.

Just by knowing the year model, mileage and engine size,
its hard to say how long it will live...
Maybe the VIN # to run thru CARFAX?
Any more details??

I am new to the car world are there specifics to preventative maintenance besides changing your oil every 3,000 miles, keeping all fluids full and clean, rotating tires etc.. that I should be doing?

everything I have is in this Autocheck report and their web site, it was a fleet vehicle to begin with.

(AUTOCHECK)
http://www.vancouverford.com/autoChe...1c8mRPMxtG2jRh

(LISTING)
http://www.vancouverford.com/Vehicle...-WA/1769207993

everything looks clean as fas as I can tell but I'm no professional and I don't think you can get the feel for a vehicle without testing it out.

No need to change that frequently - old thinking perpetuated by the quick change oil places who are in the business of .............. selling you oil.

Ford says 5,000 on the 4.0 and they are in the business where they have to warranty the engine against damage.

On my 2006 I was changing oil every 8,000 miles, and that was running the car on boost from 90,000 miles. I sent an oil sample out for analysis every third change and Blackstone Labs was saying I could extend it further. The car had 203,000 miles on it when I sold it in June 2012 and ordered the 2013. The new owner reports it is still running strong and checked out with compression and leak down tests.
