Default Calling ALL X-Charger owners!

Hello everyone!

I'm new at this, so please bare with me. I'll get right to the point. I need your help!

I recently bought an X-Charger 2.8 pulley for my bone stock mustang. The mustang was around 115K miles at the time of installation. After I installed the xcharger, I pulled out and floored it. On the second run the car broke down.

Found out I broke pistons # 4 & 6 and there was a crack in the cylinder. I thought these X-chargers were good to go on stock engines. I'm wondering if anyone else has had this issue or if you think it was just some sort of crazy bad luck.

I'm not giving up on my Mustang, so I had to cough up some of my savings to get a replacement engine. Now, I'm wondering if I should reinstall the X-charger. I'm wondering if it was just due to an old engine (even though I don't think 115k is THAT old..). If I reinstall and it happens AGAIN, then I'll know it's the supercharger.

Can any fellow x-charged v6er give me advice??

Thank you very much!

You did upload the correct tune for the Xcharger first? You don't mention it is the only reason I ask and there have been failures just like you mention with people trying to simply install and go without the tune. What octane gas did you have and how much was in the tank?

I put the Xcharger on my 2006 with 90,000 miles on it, after 2 years of running a 75 shot of nitrous. Later upgraded to the Xtreme kit - when I sold it to order the 2013 in June 2012 it had 203,000 miles on it and was still running mid 12's at the track. All on the stock motor.

I've been running my X for 7 years, no problems at all. I agree with Jim, were you running the proper tune? Was the kit used or new? Who wrote the tune?

Thank you for the quick responses.

It was a brand new kit. I ran the tune that was preset with the kit. I got the x charger directly from explorer express. I believe I had 93 octane in my gas tank. I think I may have had a mixture of 87. I don't think it was 100% pure 93 because I was running on 87. Before the install. I was low on fuel with one or two gallons left. Filed up with 93. Then I installed the x charger. So there might be some 87 still left but very minimal.

Do you guys know if it is possible to use the tuner to decrease the amount of boost produced by the xcharger?? I am trying to get in touch with the folks at Explorer Express, but they are not picking up.

Thanks!

The tune doesn't control the boost. On the Xcharger your boost is controlled by the size of the pulley.

Yeah, I definitely redlined it. haha. I have a tci ratchet shifter installed. I guess I'll need to shift gears sooner?

That could be the issue - I've seen more than one person with the ratchet shifter over-rev and toast the engine while shifting manually.

the drive rev limiter should have prevented that, unless it's
set to high.
