Frozen Emergency Brake
Anyone have problems/solutions for frozen emergency brake? I always park outside, last 2 cold nights E-brake froze. Second time it froze in off position, I'm not putting it on at night until I resolve this!
Hi,
We have the same problem with a frozen E-Brake. Mustang is in the shop today and I'll re-post if there is a solution. We have to use the e-brake as we park on an incline.
The other problem, and it's major, is that the driver's door window is freezing... which means that the window will not automatically go down a little to get into the car without the chance of breaking the window. Then if you manage to get the door open with the frozen window, you cannot shut the door unless you want to replace the driver's window because it's frozen in the up position. Our dealership has called Ford directly to see what their solution is. We live in New England and moving south, or building a garage, or taking the Mustang off the road, are not options. So, we can't be the only ones with this problem?

As a follow-up to the same problem... Ford is AWARE of the frozen E-Brake issue and has a new e-brake cable to resolve this problem. We have a rental for the next two days, as service is awaiting shipment of this new cable. NO ONE should have to deal with this everyday that we have freezing temps.
Now, we are still trying to resolve the frozen drop-down window problem before we brake the driver's side glass.....UGH!!! And, more snow on the way!
Happy Holidays....
Hello Angelica39,
You wouldn't happen to know the Ford part number for this new e-brake cable? I've been having a tonne of issues with mine freezing up (every time it is cold) but my local Ford dealer can't find any TSB's, etc... from Ford indicating there is a new cable. If you don't know the part number, would you be so kind as to let me know what Ford dealer did the work on your vehicle? I might be able to convince mine to give them a shout to find out the necessary information. Thanks.

This was stated on service order. "CALLED TECH HOT LINE, THEY ARE INVESTAGATING THE PROBLEM AT THIS TIME, AND TO CHECK TO REAR CABLE BOOTS AT THE CALIERS IF THEY ARE CRACKED TO REPLACE THE CABLES (ONLY IF THEY ARE CRACKED) (SAVE OLD CABLES FOR 30 DAYS) HAD TO ORDER CABLES. REPLACED E BRAKE CABLES AND VERIFIED REPAIR."
Here are some numbers they used....
1 4R3Z*2A635* CA CABLE ASY - PARKING BRAKE
1 4R3Z*2A635* BA CABLE ASY - PARKING BRAKE
Feel free to email me at angelica39@aol.com if you have any other questions. Also, you wouldn't be having any issues with frozen windows, would you? The rubber seal around the drop down window won't let me in the car on cold days!
Hello Angelica39,
Thanks so much for the info... my dealer is going to contact the hotline now, and they expect there should be no problems with getting it fixed... they didn't contact the hotline before, and the part numbers you gave were a great help. As for the windows, I've been lucky in that regard (as it seems everything that can go wrong with my car has :S ) as I haven't had any issues with the windows not coming down (a couple of mornings you could tell that it was slightly frozen, but not enough to stop it). This problem must be dependent on the vehicle, as we get a LOT of freezing rain throughout the winter/fall, and a friend of mine who had an 05 last winter and never once had his windows freeze (and his car was always exposed to the elements). Hope you get that problem resolved, and thanks again for your help. Later

I have a 2006 with a manual transmission. I use the parking brake everytime I park the car, and so far no issues. I am fearing the window drop/freezing issue. I live about 1 hour north of Detroit,Michigan and know hat cold and snow/ice is. My parking brake has been on through the night, and a week ago it was 9 deg. F when I got up that morning and no issues. I do make sure I clean the windows, near the top really good before entering. I keep my scrpaer in the trunk, so I don't have to enter the car for it before scraping/cleaning. It seems like we should be able to shut this option off, but Ford designed it to better seal against wind leaks and rattles. A double edged sword I guess. The only thing you can do, is be careful until we here more. It is possible some/all cars have a regular steel cable and not the new stainless cable. There have been many updates to the 2006, I'm not sure if this has been implemented yet.
Good Luck!
