another gear question!

another gear question!
It seems the popular mods are dual exhaust, cai/tuner and then rear end gears. I have a manual trans so it seems the 3.73's are the gears of choice. Could anyone tell me how much they are selling them for? I saw people saying ford racing gears are about $180 but do you have to buy a installation kit also? Then the labor question. How long does it take a qualified tech to install them? My biggest concern though is how much fuel economy will I loose. I know the car will run higher rpm's, so what rpm's are you running when you are at say 55 and 65 mph! thanks for any feedback.

RE: another gear question!
Im have the 3:73's. Not a big difference around town. On the highway it will run about 300 rpm higher. If anything it should help your gas mileage during stop and go driving, but a little less on the highway. Try http://www.mustangtuning.com , they have pretty good prices. I would get a tuner while your at it too so your not stuck waiting for one like me!

RE: another gear question!
Labor was about $260. The only time you'll notice a big difference is when you launch from a stop, you wont notice anything while cruising. I'd say it was worth the money, but get the 4:10's if you never have to use the highway. The car's computer tells me my average mpg (dont know how accurate it is), but im a pretty aggressive driver so its hard to tell. Just dont buy them expecting to save money on gas, just buy them for the extra kick while launching. Good luck on your decision!

RE: another gear question!
thanks for the info. It is hard to find answers to some of these questions talking to repair shops. No one wants to give me a firm price for installation. I keep getting anywhere for 4 to 6 hrs @ $70/hr. Then they said I may need a new inboard pinion bearing and a install kit possibly. Can anyone point me to a link were someone that sells these parts knows exactly what I need to buy to take to the shop. Last thing I want is my car sitting apart for days waiting for a part or buying a kit with a bunch a extra bearings and stuff I don't need. Already tried a couple sites, the people I talked to didn't know anything and seems most places don't have the right parts for the 7.5 rear end. Don't mind sticking $500 into the project but i'm not getting any firm prices. Anyone know a place around Green Bay, Wi. that sells/ installs these?

If the guy intalling it knows what he is doing then you shouldnt have to replace the bearings. But if he messes it up then you will need them. If you want to be safe you could just buy an install kit with the gears. Those guys sound a little fishy to me...

Yea the 3.73's are going to be my next mod along with a t-lok of my choice. The guy I brought my car to figured mathmaticly you will be shifting into 4th before the trap no matter what so mine as well get to 4th a bit quicker.

RE: another gear question!
I had my gears and t lok installed this past wednesday at real speed auto Dan put down 3.3 hours at 65.oo per plus 98.00 for the t lok If you go to a shop who does these installs they should already have the spacers so you should not have to buy them. If the bearings get ruined while removing them they should cost around 25.00 each. At 80 MPH my RPM's are right around 2800. If you do a lot of highway driving the 410's will rev really high over 60 mph. Be selective. I had 410's in a 69 goat and I stayed right at 55 because of the high rev.
