Default Determining Wheel Size

I purchased my 06 GT about 3 months ago. It has 17" Bullitt wheels with 235/55/17 and 235/50/17 tires on it. I am wanting to purchase some new tires but I am curious what size the wheel actually is, 17x8?, 17x9? I don't know.

How could I find this out other than taking the vehicle to a shop or is a shop the only way? Been looking over the net but couldn't really find an answer so far.

I also want to go to a wider tire size, as wide as possible without rubbing or bulging. 255, 265?

Thanks

If you have a picture looking down the side, I can tell you via the appearance and the tire size you have mentioned. If you are running 235, I can guarantee you are not running anything over an 8.5" wheel and almost positive you are running an 8" wheel.

I just did some searching as well and was unable to determine, but may be able to get a 265 due to the profile hight, but will lead to some sloppy sidewalls in the corners. You should be able to see the width written on the inside/back of the spokes.

Thanks Jazzer.

I need to replace a clamp on my axle-back so I may be able to take a look and see if that is stamped inside/back of the spokes.

Checked over the weekend and it showed 17x8 on the inside of the rim.

So what is the best size to put on there? I currently have 235/50/17. I would like to go a bit wider if I can, and maybe down to a 45 or 40.

Thanks

you could fit a 255 on there.

a 45 or 40 will cause your speedo to be off, but you should be able to correct that with your tuner.

^ Depending on the profile..... yes, you could

Be sure to confirm approved fitment via the manufacturers website of the specific tire you plan to run. Also confirm the tires dameter and is best to stick OEM diameter to avoid all issues of speedo/gearing issues. Speedo is easy to address, but may not want to deal with the issue.

I already have speedo issues ever since I tuned the vehicle. Currently working with Bama to resolve that issue.
Won't be getting new tires for some time, these still have some good tread on them.
