GT-R RAM AIR FIBERGLASS HOOD
I am considering getting the GT-R hood but Im worried about moisture being absorbed through the air filter and in the motor. How can this be setup “safely” do you install a different air-filter? My car also has a Saleen Supercharger so I don’t want to hurt that as well. Do you take the plastic top off the air box to allow straight air flow through the scoop to the intake?
Anyone have this setup?

I also have a GTR Ram Air Hood. When I installed my Saleen Supercharger, the throttle body was hitting the air plenum under the hood. I did not want to change motor mounts so I cut a section out of the air plenum under the hood so the throttle body would fit. I had a body shop then seal the plenum by installing a 3/4" recess into the plenum. The throttle body now fits well into the recess in the plenum. You can't tell from outside and the ram air function remains in tact. You need to consider this before you buy the GTR Hood. No problems with water intrusion so far.

This isnt a true "ram air" setup... its just a hood that is open and allows fresh air into the engine bay. To my knowledge there are no true "ram air" kits for our car and if there were, they would certainly require more than just a hood. As far as water getting into your intake, Im assuming you mean by morning dew and moisture in the air correct? I wouldnt worry about that because the intake is exposed to air and moisture and ventilation already, the way it is... the bottom of your car is completely open, I cant see how your air filter would get any wetter from those 2 little openings on the hood. If what youre concerned about is the filter getting wet in the rain... If youre driving 80 mph with rain coming directly at you, and your air filter is positioned right behind those openings, then Id be worried... otherwise I think it should be fine. There are a few others on the site using this hood and I have yet to see any problems.

You are correct in that it is not a true Ram Air hood but the plenum diverts the fresh air directly above the air filter. When I had my CAI, the plenum discharged directly on top of the filter. After 3000 miles, the CAI filter looked dirtier than I would have expected. I have the Saleen filter housing now which intakes from the bottom so the Ram AIr is probably less effective.

Probably not worthwhile for a stock filter box. I bought it because it looks great and was probably efficient for the CAI. I will probably put a CAI on my S/C if I can find one that fits under my hood. I guess venting the hot air out of the hood is not a bad thing.
